Water and Sanitation Projects
Water is life, but in Kassunga, access to safe, clean water has not always been a given. For decades, many families relied on contaminated or distant sources for their daily needs, exposing children and adults alike to waterborne illnesses and daily hardship.
KMI is committed to changing that story. Our water and sanitation projects are designed to meet this most basic need – clean, accessible water – in ways that are sustainable, community-led, and life-saving.

Drilling Deep-Water Wells
One of our most critical efforts is drilling clean water wells throughout Kassunga and nearby villages. These wells, strategically placed near schools and community centers, provide hundreds of people with daily access to safe drinking water.
- Wells reduce the risk of illness from waterborne diseases
- Free children (especially girls) from walking long distances to fetch water
- Enabling better hygiene in schools and homes
Well Maintenance and Repair
Water access doesn’t end with drilling. KMI invests in long-term well maintenance, ensuring pumps are kept in working order and that local leaders are trained in basic upkeep. We’ve also helped repair failed or aging water systems, restoring vital access to water in areas that had gone without for years.

Sanitation Facilities and Hygiene Education
Clean water is only half the equation. That’s why KMI supports the construction of latrines, handwashing stations, and other sanitation facilities, particularly at schools. These safe, private facilities improve health outcomes and help keep girls in school as they grow older.
Additionally, we promote community hygiene education – teaching the importance of handwashing, safe water storage, and waste disposal. These practices dramatically reduce the spread of illness and support the long-term health of families.
The Impact
Fewer cases of waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid
Improved school attendance and academic performance
Increased dignity, especially for girls and women
More time for learning, farming, or work, not walking for water
Clean water transforms everything.
It’s not just about hydration – it’s about education, health, and the future. Thanks to donors and mission teams, KMI continues to bring this essential resource to more families each year.
